Specifications
A specification is the document that
precisely describes
a system in enough detail to build the system.
In other words, it is the
“blueprint” for the solution.
A specification is needed for all
development jobs
so that work can be performed without the need for constant supervision
and coordination. Imagine
building a house without a blueprint.
Building a software or hardware solution
without a
specification is just as hazardous.
Sometimes, a specification is the only
document that is
needed in preparing for a development phase.
However, often there are too many
decisions that are
required for just one attempt at producing a document.
In these circumstances, a design
document is
produced that contains the objectives and the high level methods that
will be undertaken in building the system.
Additionally, a functional design
document may be
produced. A
function design is a much lower level description of the design, but
not as exact as a specification. Each
of these documents is a step towards the production of the
specification, and hence the production of a complete, operational
solution.
This specification process facilitates the
creation of
successful solutions, first time.
The specification process enables a
reduction in the
total amount of effort in producing the solution, as less supervision
and coordination effort is required during the development phase. Design and Specification
documents also provide a frame work for ensuring that appropriate and
timely decision making in incorporated on the project.
In essence, the design and specification
process is
one of the greatest factors in affecting a successful outcome for a
development project.
TIG International has extensive experience
in the
undertaking of Design and Specification for projects.
We provide advice and documentation
services for the
production of these documents as applicable.
TIG International staff is skilled at
facilitating
this process with all parties involved in the project, and bring a
level of proficiency to the overall solution that is often overlooked. The combination of a
Specification procedure, with TIG International’s assistance
will result in a more productive, beneficial, and easily accepted
solution.
