PDT Styled Devices
Portable Data Terminal (PDT) describes
a full computer that may or may not have an integrated bar code
scanner, with keyboards for data entry.
They can be anything from an old
DOS style to custom operating systems to PocketPC based. Typically used in
warehouse and industrial environments where durability, ruggedness and
reliability are critical.

PDA Styled Devices
Personal Digital Assistant (PDA)
styled devices are small digital hand-held computers, that may or may
not have an integrated bar code scanner, but operates identically to
commercially available real PDAs such as the Palm Tungsten or the HP
iPAQ.

Fixed / Tethered Scanning Devices
Fixed / tethered scanners are also
known as keyboard wedge scanners.
The “wedge”
decodes scanned bar codes and directly transfers this data to the
desktop as if it has been manually typed.
A separate power supply is not
required as the “wedge” draws required power
directly from the keyboard via the keyboard cable.

Intermec ScanPlus 1800 VISTA
Scanner
A result of combining CCD and
laser technologies, the Vista Scanner has increased capability to read
bar codes at distances of up to 49.2cm as well as maintaining ability
to read poor quality bar codes.

Cordless scanning refers to the
scanned data being transferred directly to the desktop via Radio
Frequency (RF) technologies.

Keyboard Wedge Kit
With
a range of up to 15 meters from base station, the ScanPlus 1802 can
have multiple scanners can interface with a single base station. Kit includes ScanPlus 1802

PDF417 / 2D Scanning Devices
PDF417 / 2D describes bar codes which
are two-dimensional and have the ability to hold large amounts of data. Many of the newer scanners
support PDF417 / 2D bar code reading.

Hardware Warranty Information
Please take the time to carefully read
the warranty information that is applicable to your hardware purchase
as not all warranty terms and conditions are the same.
Not all manufacturers supply warranty
information in writing with each hardware item and some may only
provide this upon request and others may publish the information on the
World Wide Web.
As TIG International’s
current status of hardware reseller we only endorse the manufactures
warranty and do not support extended warranties or service agreements. If extended warranties or
enhanced service levels are desirable, TIG International recommends you
consider a hardware maintenance agreement.
Your Quality Inspection Procedures
should include a full inspection and testing of all hardware upon
receipt of your goods. Any
anomalies should be immediately referred to TIG International for
resolution.
Example:
Warranty may cover the primary
hardware purchase for an extended period however accessories including
power packs may only be covered for a limited period.
